Backstory
The P-6 Corsair has been the go to recon unit of the Adriadines for decades. High speed, low drag, and limited radar susceptibility makes it ideal for quick scouting and raiding missions.
The Goal
Pay tribute to the US Navy's Vought F4U Corsair with a large intake and shorter stabilizers while giving the vehicle a futuristic, scarab-like appearance.
The Process
Starting with a sketch and shape language gave me different ideas before refining the silhouette, making selections for the nose ring and other machinery, and adding textures and color corrections.
Again, I wanted to have some engineering components from the F4U Corsair make their way into the final design. I decided to remove the pulse discharge weapon on the nose and focus on the main shape of the vehicle. The back half of the craft proved to be more of a challenge.
The final design evokes speed, power, and maneuverability by combining a large intake, scoop, and rear rotors while the pointed Y shape of the tail adds an element of danger.
